On Debian-based distributions, such as Ubuntu, you can install Jenkins through apt-get.
Prerequisite : JDK and JRE over 1.7
Prerequisite: Install Java 8
Add java source list.
$ sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.list.d/java-8-debian.list
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main
Import GPG key
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys EEA14886
Install Java 8
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer
$ java -version

Process Management
start | stop | status | restart | force-reload jenkins,
$ service jenkins {start|stop|status|restart|force-reload}
or
$ sudo /etc/init.d/jenkins {start|stop|status|restart|force-reload}
User Management
- From home_dir(/var/lib/jenkins)/config.xml, edit
<useSecurity>false</useSecurity>
- From Web Console, Goto Manage Jenkins > Configure Global Security.
- Select the “Enable Security” check box.
- Select “Jenkins Own User Database” for the security realm and then select “Logged in Users can do anything” (or “matrix based strategy” for multiple users with different permissions) for the Authorization.
